ALERT:
Between 9 am and 1015 am on Monday 9th April an elderly resident on Oaktree Drive in Bilsthorpe was visited at home by a male claiming to be from a road surfacing company. The male asked if she could contribute any money towards the work that had been completed on the street by the council. A large amount of money was handed over to the male.
The male is described as a white male, 5"9 tall of average build, wearing dark clothing. Another witness recalls seeing a male wearing a high-viz vest on the street at the time of the offence.

On the same day at 1015 am on Church Road in Clipstone a male visited a property stating that he had been sent by the landlord to check the gas. The male was not allowed in to the property. The landlord was contacted who confirmed this was not the case.
This male is described as a white male aged between 25-27 years, skinny build, stubble on his face. He was wearing a grey tracksuit and a black beanie hat. The male left in a blue BMW 1series (55 plate).

REMEMBER

DON'T
Let strangers into your home without checking their identity.
Be pressured to purchasing items at the door.
Employ a tradesperson without ensuring they are reputable.

DO
Get quotes from more than one tradesperson. Look out for ‘buy with confidence’ and ‘trusted traders’ logos, ask local authorities or Age UK for reputable tradespersons.
Keep your front and back doors locked, even when you are at home.
If you have one, always put the door chain on or use your spy hole when someone calls, even if you are expecting someone.
If you are 60+, sign up for the password scheme run by utility companies. Its proof of identity if the caller knows your designated password.
