Advice regarding vacant commercial premises

20/05/2011
For the attention of all businesses, Letting Agents and security firms particularly those in the North Rushcliffe area that have vacant commercial properties, should take the following security precautions in protecting their buildings;

Please ensure that vacant buildings are secured, making sure that all windows and doors are securely closed and locked. Make use of roller shutters where installed and access control points should be fully secured ensuring that gates and barriers are used and securely locked at all times.

Where intruders alarms are installed these should be in full working order and in operation at all times.

Ensure you carry out regular visits to the premises to check they remain fully secure and no signs of damage have been caused in attempts to gain entry to the building. Check the perimeter of the premises to ensure there have been no breaches, and ensure that any vulnerable areas are addressed immediately.

Display deterrent warning signage to advise that all valuable assets have been removed from the premises.

This advice follows instances of vacant commercial units being broken into to strip them of piping, wiring, boilers and other valuable items causing thousands of pounds worth of damage and much disruption.
